The events occurred around 7:24 am that day. It should be noted that Juan Carlos González, a graduate in physical education and a specialist in cycling and athletics training, in conversation with EL TIEMPO, assures that “the statistics of sudden deaths in athletes do not show a consolidated global source, but there are serious studies that are become reliable references.”
González added that “as for the figures, in the United States, the death of high school athletes is close to the average of one person for every 200,000 practitioners, while the figures from Spanish entities such as the Mutual General Deportiva and the Federation of Medicine of Sports give us 0.26 per 100,000 inhabitants,” he noted.
González assures that the deaths generated due to cardiovascular risk factors exceed those generated by one thousand percent, not by sport itself, but in the sporting field.
