The society Cybex is continuing to work on a specific child seat, capable not only of enveloping and absorbing shocks, but also of containing a specific airbag suitable for so-called whiplash. In the event of an accident, as can be seen in classic laboratory crash tests, children in the rear seats can suffer severe neck damage in the event of a collision, because there is essentially nothing to prevent the head from being pushed forward.
With the ‘Anoris’ model, the company says it has found a way to offer 50% more protection than traditional forward-facing seats and to enjoy levels of active and passive safety that are greater than alternatives aimed at’ backards. The seat they designed, and already available on the market, deploys its C-shaped airbag in milliseconds in front of the baby, supporting the head and neck. The bag inflates thanks to a small gas cylinder, and because it has a small volume and relatively low pressure, the chair does not require the explosive inflator of an adult airbag.
Currently the product is one of the most expensive, but covers a greater age range (it is suitable for the category 76 – 115 cm in height, substantially from 15 months up to about 6 years of age) and being precisely aimed at the same ‘ direction of travel of the driver, is more easily monitored even when driving. The Cybex Anoris protective cushion clicks into place and uses a buckle system that adapts to the child’s build, thus obtaining another bonus: ease of use and speed in operations.
