Customs The number of customs offenses continued to fall – more snuff was seized than ever before

There was also a clear increase in drug seizures.

Customs offenses the number fell to a low of eight years last year, Customs says in a statement. Customs says more than 5,400 crimes have been uncovered.

The number of crimes has been affected above all by the Korona period and the resulting decline in passenger traffic. At the same time, customs offenses have become a more organized and professional activity.

Despite the decline in the number of crimes, Customs seized a record number of snuff last year, totaling more than 9,100 kilograms. This was about 2,000 pounds more than the previous year and the largest amount ever.

Larger snuff cargoes were smuggled into the Finnish market mainly from northern Sweden across the land border, but seizures were also made from shipping. According to customs, the sale and smuggling of snus has largely become a professional crime in Finland.

Medicinal products almost four times as many as in the previous year were seized, more than 1.5 million. According to Customs, the increase is explained by a few large seizures of nicotine sachets.
