The Los Angeles Lakers beat the Golden State Warriors this Saturday, drying out Stephen Curry (108-118). 13 points with a pitiful 4 of 17 in field goals (2 of 9 in triples) was the terrible statistical sheet of Curry, who did not score a single point in a nightmare second half (0 of 8 in shots).
With Curry under control, the Lakers (25-18) had much of the work done and finished it off between Anthony Davis (36 points and 13 rebounds) and LeBron James (25 points and 12 assists). Those in purple and gold have won their last three games and this was their first game in a series of six away games.
Andrew Wiggins (20 points and 6 rebounds) was the most productive of the Warriors (22-23) outside the West play-in and with three losses in their last four games.
Cavaliers, 131 – Rockets, 135
The historic and masterful Cavaliers (36-9) remain leaders of the East but are going through their worst moment of the season with three consecutive defeats, the last of them against some rebellious Rockets (30-14) who had already beaten them in Houston on last Wednesday.
Four days later the result was repeated but in Cleveland. Amen Thompson scored a triple-double (23 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists) for the Rockets with Alperen Sengun, Jalen Green and Fred VanVleet also scoring over 20 points. For the Cavaliers, Darius Garland (39 points and 9 assists) and Donovan Mitchell (33 points and 7 assists) led the way.
Grizzlies, 125 – Jazz, 107
With 28 points from Jaren Jackson Jr. and five other players in double figures in scoring, the Grizzlies (31-15) got rid of the Jazz (10-33) and chained their sixth straight win to continue fighting with the Rockets for that second West position since the Oklahoma City Thunder (36-8) seem untouchable.
The Spanish Santi Aldama was absent in Memphis due to illness. The Jazz, from bad to worse with five consecutive losses that keep them at the bottom of the West, Collin Sexton was the most productive with 20 points.
Mavericks, 107 – Celtics, 122
The reissue of the last NBA Finals was decaffeinated mainly due to the absence of the injured Luka Doncic. Without the Slovenian in front of them, the Celtics (32-14), who had just lost against the Lakers, took the victory with their entire quintet in double figures in scoring and with Jayson Tatum (24 points and 6 rebounds), Derrick White (23 points) and Jaylen Brown (22 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists) up front.
Kyrie Irving (22 points) led the attack of the Mavericks (24-22) who have recorded six defeats in their last eight games and who, after losing Dereck Lively due to injury this week, regretted this Saturday another loss in their interior rotation with Maxi Kleber, who suffered a fracture in his right foot.
Timberwolves, 133 – Nuggets, 104
Anthony Edwards led the Timberwolves’ victory (24-21) with 34 points and 9 assists, who also ended Nikola Jokic’s streak of five consecutive triple-doubles.
The Serbian genius had 20 points, 3 rebounds and 11 assists for the Nuggets (28-17) who lost after four straight wins and could not stop Minnesota’s success (55.8% in field goals, 46.7 % in triples).
Knicks, 143 – Kings, 120
Fireworks at Madison Square Garden, where the Knicks (30-16) subdued the Kings (23-22) with a choral recital by their starting quintet: triple-double by Josh Hart (20 points, 18 rebounds and 11 assists) , OG Anunoby (33 points), the Dominican Karl-Anthony Towns (18 points and 15 rebounds), Jalen Brunson (25 points and 11 assists) and Mikal Bridges (27 points and 7 assists).
Malik Monk (31 points and 9 assists) and Domantas Sabonis (25 points and 12 assists) could not compensate for the Knicks’ 17 of 36 three-pointers who also controlled the rebound with a firm hand (53 of 38).
In the rest of the matches of the day, the Indiana Pacers beat the San Antonio Spurs in Paris (98-136) and the Brooklyn Nets, coached by Spanish Jordi Fernández, could not give Vince Carter a victory on the day of the retirement of his jersey since they lost to the Miami Heat (97-106).
In addition, the Orlando Magic beat the Detroit Pistons (121-113), the Charlotte Hornets beat the New Orleans Pelicans (123-92), the Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Chicago Bulls (97-109), the Toronto Raptors surprised to the Atlanta Hawks (94-117), the Phoenix Suns sealed the thirteenth consecutive defeat for a Washington Wizards in a coma (119-109) and The Los Angeles Clippers ended the Milwaukee Bucks’ five-game winning streak (127-117).
