There is a strange thread that links Carlos Sainz and George Russell. When one wins (the Ferrari driver), the other is knocked out. In fact, a curious statistic tells us that, in all three times that the Spaniard finished the race on the top step of the podium, the Mercedes number 63 was destroyed in an accident.
First round: Great Britain 2022
Sainz's first success came at Silverstone 2022 (which also became famous for the “stop inventing” radio team): on that occasion, Russell was involved in a initial collision with Alex Albon's Williams and Guanyu Zhou's Alfa Romeothe latter ended up dangerously against the safety nets after overturning (but without consequences for the pilot and the public).
Second round: Singapore 2023
In Singapore last year, the only race without a Red Bull victory of the entire season, Russell was chasing Sainz and Norris after opting for an aggressive strategy with an extra tire change but, on the last lap, a mistake in rating has it sent to the wall opening the doors of the podium to Lewis Hamilton.
Third round: Australia 2024
This year in Melbourne the penultimate lap was fatal for the #63 who, in an attempt to catch Fernando Alonso for sixth place, lost control of the Mercedes carambulating dangerously in the center of the track.
