After the first official teaser images released in recent days, Cupra has unveiled the new concept UrbanRebel, which anticipates the next electric crossover that the Spanish carmaker will launch on the market in 2025. The first details of the new concept car have therefore been revealed, before the physical debut of the car scheduled in a few days at the Munich Motor Show. This is the first glimpse of a model created for the new crucial MEB Entry platform of the Volkswagen Group, which will be the basis of a range of small cars that will debut over the next few years.
“We are talking about a radical interpretation of a Cupra urban electric car that will be launched in 2025. Our brand has chosen to present it as a concept linked to motorsport to highlight that racing is at the heart of Cupra’s DNA. – commented the number one of the Spanish brand, Wayne Griffiths – This is a key strategic project for our company, but also for the entire Volkswagen Group: our goal is to produce more than 500,000 urban electric cars a year in Martorell for different brands of the group ”. Griffiths himself highlighted the evolution of the design of the new UrbanRebel concept: the front part in the shape of a “shark nose” is embellished with new triangular shaped headlights, while at the rear stands a large wing enhanced by a light bar that extends horizontally and is characterized by the centrally positioned Cupra logo.
The details of the electric powertrain were only partially revealed: Cupra admitted that the maximum power guaranteed will be nearly 430 hp, which will allow a sprint from 0 to 100 km / h achievable in 3.2 seconds. It remains to be determined whether the production version of the UrbanRebel will also boast the same specifications, even if the latest rumors reported by Autocar explain how in reality the latter will be less powerful. As for the battery, entry-level versions are likely to use technology lithium iron phosphate, which will be about 50% cheaper than that of current battery cells but which according to estimates will have greater limits in terms of charging and autonomy. The latter should still be around 280 kilometers.
