Today let’s raise the tickets for the writer-artist portfolio Tove Jansson’s and in honor of Finnish art.
Jansson, who died in 2001, was a prominent and internationally respected painter and writer, best known as the creator of Moomin Valley and the Moomin stories. During his long career, he made a lot of illustrations, paintings, caricatures and cartoons and wrote books.
Jansson wrote in Swedish, and his works have been translated into more than 50 languages. Jansson’s works deal with themes related to the status of minorities and the experience and acceptance of difference, among other things.
Jansson lived in Helsinki and spent summers in the Pelling archipelago. He was 86 years old when he died.
Jansson’s career spanned a total of 70 years, and he was awarded numerous awards, including the Nils Holgersson Award, the Svenska Dagbladet Literature Award, the Pro Finlandia Medal, the Finnish State Literature Award and the Finland Award. For his achievements in children’s literature, the artist was awarded the HC Andersen medal.
Tove Jansson and Finnish art have been flagged since 2020, when Ministry of the Interior decided to recommend general flagging on Jansson’s birthday.
