In this issue we focus on the leading French playwright, Molière. His skillful handling of the French language continues to dazzle four centuries after his birth. To celebrate the author’s link with the court of Louis XIV, the city of Versailles has been organizing a month of special events and performances for 26 years. Olivia Salazar-Winspear, Gerôme Vassilacos and Loïc Chalavon went to Versailles to meet the young company that brings the works of the acclaimed playwright to life.
In other topics, we talk about the controversial opening of Documenta 15, the largest exhibition of contemporary art in the world together with the Venice Biennale. For 100 days in Kassel, Germany, the works of more than 1,500 artists are expected to attract at least a million visitors, but one work was hidden entirely: a large canvas titled ‘People’s Justice’, by the Indonesian artists’ collective Taring Padi, described as anti-Semite.
We also look at the Dior parade in Seville, Spain, and the garments created by gastronomy students at the Universidad del Claustro de Sor Juana, in Mexico. And we end with a selection of musical premieres: Tayc with Hamza (France), John Legend with JID (United States), and Trueno with Nathy Peluso (Argentina).
