The temporary exhibition is framed in the commemoration of the 800th anniversary of the monarch and will offer a concert
The Ministry of Education and Culture inaugurates this Thursday, at 7:00 p.m., at the Archaeological Museum of Murcia, the exhibition ‘Instruments of the Wise King. Music and instruments in the court of King Alfonso X ‘.
The temporary exhibition, framed in the commemoration of the 800th anniversary of the birth of King Alfonso X, is curated by Sara Marina and Emilio Villalba. After the inauguration, the curators will offer a concert with some of the instruments from the exhibition.
The exhibition has some musical instruments inspired by those that were used in the court of Alfonso X the Wise during the making of the cantigas.
In this way, in the room, the visitor will be able to contemplate medieval instruments such as guitars, lutes with leather and wood covers, violas and rabels, psalteries and harps, all accompanied by explanatory panels and an audiovisual, in which the moment is recreated of elaboration of the cantigas in the scriptorium of the king.
Among the activities of the visit is also included ‘The luthier’s workshop’, in which attendees will be able to see an instrument disassembled into pieces and this once the manufacturing process is finished, with its elements and materials. In addition, among others, the medieval guitar section or the percussion instruments used in the characteristic cantigas of the time stand out.
During the period of the temporary exhibition, the Museums and Exhibitions service has planned a series of children’s workshops at the Archaeological and Santa Clara de Murcia museums that will feature Alfonso X el Sabio.
The head of Culture, María Isabel Campuzano, has invited “the citizens of the Region of Murcia to enjoy the entire cycle of activities organized in memory of the Wise King, who is having a great reception”
