Cultural events New restrictions hurt Helsinki’s events: Tavastia cancels everything, Nightwish postpones its concert once again

The Helsinki Music Hall, for example, is also exciting. “Residual uncertainty,” sums up Kaisa Näreranta, who produces the first reversion of Kaija Saariaho’s work.

New ones interest rate restrictions will affect several concerts and events in the metropolitan area in the coming weeks.

According to restrictions imposed by the government on Tuesday, the corona passport will not be able to be exempted from restrictions for so far as the so-called high- and moderate-risk public events for three weeks from 28 December onwards.

High-risk public events include indoor mass concerts when seating is not defined.

Thus, for example, Helsinki’s most famous rock club Tavastia will have to cancel all its gigs during that period.

Scandinavian Music Group was scheduled to perform at Tavastia on four nights. Photo from the Freedom Festival in summer 2016.

Next week’s on monday and tuesday, Tavastia was supposed to have two young generation artists Melon and Lauri Haavin gigs. From Thursday onwards, the stage was reserved for the Helsinki-based band Scandinavian Music Group for as much as four days.

“It is clear that all gigs will be postponed or canceled until January 20,” Tavastia’s program director Mikko Merimaa says.

“We will be giving information on a gig-by-gig basis, as long as solutions have been found, but we still don’t know about most gigs [niiden kohtaloa]. One gig was just postponed from January to September, ”says Merimaa.

This is the gig of the rock band 69 Eyes, which was originally supposed to be in Tavastia on January 7th.

“It’s hard to say what’s going on at gigs. Certainly some of the gigs will have to be canceled, because some gigs have already had to be postponed so many times. ”

According to Merimaa, some of the gigs have been released in the autumn of 2019 and have moved on up to 5-6 times.

“After all, this situation is serious for us as well, and we are suffering quite significant financial losses.”

Indoors gigs would be allowed if the public were provided with marked seating. It has been tried sometimes in Tavastia, but hardly now. According to Merimaa, the matter must be evaluated on a gig-by-gig basis.

“Most of the gigs have sold so well that admission for everyone who bought a ticket is no longer even possible for us in terms of capacity. It [istumapaikat] however, limits our capacity so significantly. ”

According to Merimaa, the seated gigs previously held at Tavastia have not been financially profitable for them either.

However, this is still being reconsidered.

“If the situation is prolonged and we have to be under restrictions by the spring, then we will probably have to look at that option again.”

Interest rate restrictions will once again host two major concerts by Nightwish, one of Finland’s most popular metal bands. The band was scheduled to perform on New Year’s Eve at the Helsinki Ice Rink and the day before at Tampere’s new giant arena.

“Yes, our biggest concern is our crew [henkilökunta]. The guys have not been paid for a long time. These two gigs for the rest of the year would have been very important to them. Liksat was not received again, ”the band’s manager Ewo Pohjola says.

The gig in Helsinki was originally intended to be in Kaisaniemi Park in the middle of last August, but even then the interest rate restrictions messed up the plans. According to Pohjola, some of Nightwish’s gigs have been postponed for the fourth time during the entire pandemic.

The band was supposed to go on a European tour last spring, but that too had to be postponed for months.

What does the band dare to hope for next year?

“Yes, we will be postponing these gigs for the rest of the year until the end of January. We already have spare days ready, unless the government and Avi come up with something nice again, ”says Pohjola.

The gig at Nightwish’s Helsinki Ice Rink will therefore run until January 29, and the gig in Tampere will take place on January 22.

Kaija Saariaho’s La Passion de Simone oratorio was performed under the direction of Peter Sellars during the Helsinki Festival 2007. The musical theater group La Chambre aux échos commissioned a chamber orchestra version of the work and premiered it in 2013. Now that version will be seen in Helsinki for the first time.

Helsinki The music hall is currently wondering if the composer will be reached Kaija Saariahon La Passion de Simone the theatrical ensemble version of the oratorio work is finally to be seen there. It would be the first time the work has been performed in Helsinki.

“The residual uncertainty here is at the moment. Feverishly waiting for Avi to make any decisions that could affect next week, ”says Teatro Productions, CEO of the show Kaisa Näreranta says.

According to Näreranta, the staging of the performance is currently being built, and the performers will be coming to Finland from France on Sunday.

“It’s a pretty absurd situation. This is the fifth time this has been attempted. It has been stubbornly postponed, and we are still not reversing it. If it so happened that Avi would have such restrictions that even those with a corona passport would not be able to perform those performances, then then we will start looking for new days again. ”

La Passion de Simonea is expected to be presented on December 29 and 30.
