In Kyrgyzstan, from September 7 to 9, the exercises of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) “Rubezh-2021” will be held, at which the destruction of illegal armed formations invading the territory of the state will be practiced. “The main objectives of the exercise are to improve the practical skills of officials of the command and control bodies of the Troops (Collective Forces) of the CSTO in the organization of hostilities and control of subordinate troops (forces), as well as to increase the coherence of the CRDF units of the Central African Republic in performing tasks during a joint operation,” the message says. …
The exercise will be attended by military contingents and operational groups of Russia, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, as well as the Joint Staff and the CSTO Secretariat, the formation of special forces and means of internal affairs bodies (police), bodies authorized in the field of prevention of emergency response, and Kyrgyz State Committee for National Security.
Earlier, on August 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the Russian authorities are closely following the development of the situation in Afghanistan and are actively cooperating with the allies in the CSTO, but they do not intend to interfere, let alone get involved in an “all against all” armed conflict.
The situation in Afghanistan has escalated after the start of the withdrawal of American troops who have been in the country since 2001. Militants of the Taliban movement (recognized as terrorist and banned in the Russian Federation) launched an offensive on the country’s major cities and entered Kabul on August 15, announcing the end of the war. Afghan President Ashraf Ghani resigned on the same day and left the state.
On August 23, the Taliban ordered the United States to withdraw its troops from Afghanistan by August 31. The militants ruled out the possibility of providing additional time for the continuation of the operation, threatening “consequences” in case of failure to meet the deadlines.
