Representative of the CSTO Secretariat Kuznetsov predicted a complication of the situation in Uzbekistan
The representative of the secretariat of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), Alexander Kuznetsov, said that the situation in Uzbekistan could worsen even some time after the protests in Karakalpakstan. Writes about it TASS.
“While everything is extremely unstable, complications are expected … there will also be a reaction to this,” he stressed.
Mass protests in Karakalpakstan began on July 1 due to amendments to the Constitution of Uzbekistan, which may deprive the inhabitants of the region of the opportunity to hold a referendum on secession from the republic. After the start of the protests, the country’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in Nukus and suggested not to make appropriate amendments to the law. Later, it also became known that at least 243 people were injured during the riots, and a state of emergency was introduced on the territory of Karakalpakstan until August 2.
