The announcement in Spain, yesterday, of the cancellation of the National Prize for Bullfighting has revived the debate on this type of activity and led to a fight in the political arena between the left-wing government and the right-wing opposition. “It did not seem appropriate to us to keep an award that rewards a form of animal abuse,” Culture Minister Ernest Urtason told La Sexta television, noting that “the majority of Spaniards are increasingly concerned” about respect for animals.
