Great motorcycle stories, who doesn’t have them. And above all, who doesn’t like to hear them told. That is why MotoKicX serves a strong story every Thursday, a matter of starting the day well. This week: Former racer, motorsport commentator and full-time practical joker Steve Parrish makes a bunch of waiters blush.
A fine story by full-time practical joker Steve Parrish, which I myself was privileged to witness, took place during the Ducati MotoGP press presentation in 2004. Posh chic, paid with rock-hard Marlboro dollars. I end up as a completely ‘green’ motorcycle journalist at a restaurant table with Steve ‘Stavros’ Parrish, Toby Moody and Didier de Radiguès. When two Italian waiters push a cart of cheeses past, Parrish—whose pockets are always stuffed with fake material—unnoticingly stash a remote-controlled fart sound machine on that cart. With a great sense of timing, he sets that thing off during the entire cheese cart trajectory through the restaurant, until the waiters, flushed with anger and shame, start swearing at each other. The giggles of Didier de Radigués at one point seemed on the verge of life-threatening…
