This is how the body of a spider monkey, with multiple gunshot wounds, was found in the municipality of Texcaltitlán, State of Mexico, after a confrontation between the police and an armed group. The animal died along with 11 other criminals.

The discovery surprised police investigators, who broke the news, according to the Mexican website Milenio. The animal was found next to one of the gang members. The alleged owner, a member of the Michoacana family, accused of running drug trafficking in the region, had multiple gunshot wounds and the primate in the chest.
The monkey, who suffered serious injuries in the shooting, lost his life with his arms outstretched and holding the young man who was carrying him by the shoulders. Mexican police confirmed his death as part of the procedure.
Now, authorities have ordered that a necropsy of the animal be performed by a veterinary specialist at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science at the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico (UAEMex). In this regard, they indicated that the possibility of trafficking in protected species or other types of environmental crimes will also be investigated.
