Strictly speaking, this is not the first time this has happened.
In fact, since 2017 here I documented that July 2018 It would be a federal election with a powerful whiff of “narco-choice”.
And from that date it was evident that organized crime not only financed the nascent Morena Partybut imposed candidates in a way.
mafia practices –those of imposing and financing candidates–, which were repeated in all the 2021 and 2022 elections, and which resulted in “narco-governments”states such as those of Sinaloa, Tamaulipas, Sonora, Zacatecas, Morelos, Michoacán, Baja California and Quintana Roo, among many others.
Therefore, the obligatory questions, faced with June 2024 federal election; which will be one of the biggest contests in history.
How many of the three presidential candidacies at stake, today are they financed by any of the Mexican organized crime cartels?
Will we end up, for the second consecutive six-year term, under the tutelage of a “narco-president”, as has been the mandate of Lopez Obrador?
How many candidates for governors and heads of government of CDMX are financed by criminal gangs, of the eight state governments and Mexico City, which will be renewed next June 2?
How many candidates for the 500 federal deputies are recruited and financed by crime mafias?
How many candidates to occupy the 128 seats in the Senate are financed by drug trafficking?
How many of the 31 state congresses that will be renewed will be at the service of organized crime?
And, how many of the 20,000 popularly elected positions – in the largest election in history – will have been imposed by crime and will be at the service of mafia gangs?
The above and many other questions about the violence that is taking over the ongoing electoral process can be answered if the cause and effect of the political crimes committed in the nascent federal electoral contest are analyzed.
And, in fact, behind every political-electoral crime is the hand of this or that mafia group whose leaders intend to subdue and/or impose a candidate in this or that popularly elected position.
In short, the dominant criminal groups in an electoral district, in a municipality, in a federal entity or in different regions of the country, also play the game of power and politics.
For this reason they intend to impose their candidates on positions such as local deputies, mayors and governors. Thus, once they achieve political power, they take the next step, to seize the power of the municipal, state or federal police.
And also for that reason, they achieve everything through the mafias' favorite weapons; silver and/or lead, which in the history of humanity have been the most effective methods for bending consciences.
In this way, if criminals do not use money to bend the will of a candidate – to put them at their service – then they use lead – that is, bullets – whose power of conviction is lethal.
However, despite the fact that today there are many people surprised by the presidential “narco-election” of 2024, the truth is that it is an old story.
For example, in the Political Itinerary of June 29, 2018, titled: “The `narcos' to power?”, make a detailed summary of the participation of organized crime in entities such as Tamaulipas, Guerrero, Sonora, Sinaloa, San Luis Potosí, Michoacán and others, while I warned of the risk that a “narco-state” would be imposed in Mexico starting in 2018.
This is what I said: “The participation of drug trafficking and organized crime in politics and, above all, in elections is new to no one.
“What is new – which today reached scandal levels – is the massive intervention of organized crime in the electoral processes in entities such as Guerrero, Michoacán, Oaxaca, Puebla, Sinaloa, Sonora and Tamaulipas.
“Even so, today no one knows what the number of mayors, local and federal deputies will be; of senators and even governors who will be at the service of organized crime and drug trafficking after the 2018 election.
“What we do know, however, is that like never before, municipal and state governments, the Congress of the Union and many local congresses will be in the hands of slaughterers, drug traffickers, hitmen, huachicoleros, white slave traffickers and administrators of the fortunes produced of crime.
“And that is why the obligatory question appears. Which political party will be the champion in lending its electoral franchise to criminals?
“It's called Morena Al tiempo.” (End of quote)
Were we right or wrong in 2018?
Are we right or not today, when we assure that organized crime also imposed candidates for the 2024 presidential election?
At the time.
