Crafts | “I wanted the skeleton of the upper body in the sweater” – Suvi Viljanen's self-made woolen jacket attracts attention

Industrious knitter Suvi Viljanen has yet to come across a pattern that cannot be made into a wool sock.

Humerusolecranon, clavicle, spina vertebralis… All these and many other bones can be found in a radiologist studying Suvi Viljanen from a knitted cardigan.

The idea for the sweater came from another nurse at the first internship.

“He found out about my knitting hobby and said it's a wonder you haven't made yourself a skeleton yet. That's where it started. I saw with the eyes of my soul that I wanted the skeleton of the upper body and the names of the bones in Latin on the sweater.”

According to him, no point in making the sweater was really difficult, because he has been knitting all kinds of possible patterns for so long.

“We haven't come across any idea that couldn't be made into a wool sock.”

He shared photos of the jacket in a Facebook group dedicated to the hobby of knitting. The publication sparked wildly admiring reactions among fellow weavers.

“Hats have been raised and someone said that it's amazing. There are surprisingly many other X-ray nurses in the group.”

He himself describes the end result as “quite good” and says that he would have liked the bones to be on the same scale as his own bones. However, the cardigan works as a good miniature model.

Viljanen can't wear a jacket at work in a patient situation, so it will probably become a standard accessory when attending food classes.

The bones of the hands are also visible in the cardigan.

Enthusiasm for started knitting about 14 years ago, when her children received hedgehog-themed mittens as a Christmas present. He wanted the same ones himself, and the only option was to make them himself.

Next, she wanted to make Moominpappa-themed woolen socks for her father.

“First, they went absolutely bonkers and flew into the trash. Then I discovered the intarsia technique, after which I have made hundreds of wool socks.”

Intarsia is a technique that allows you to use several colors at the same time and thus create a large pattern with a smooth knit.

Today, knitting is Viljane's way of relaxing. Knitting is a nice pastime, and learning a challenging pattern brings a sense of accomplishment.

“Relatives and friends are used to the fact that when I bring something as a gift, it's a personal gift. For example, wool socks with a picture of a friend's pet dog.”
