Workers at the Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos (CPTM) decided today (23) to go on strike, for an indefinite period, this Tuesday (24). The lines that will be affected are 11-Coral, 12-Sapphire, and 13 Jade.
According to the Union of Railway Workers in the Central Zone of Brazil, which represents the employees of these three lines, CPTM and the state government did not present a proposal that would meet the category for the second consecutive year.
“Refusing to replace the wage losses for the rising inflation, to the railway workers who have been donating in this very delicate moment of public health, transporting, without interruption, the largest city in South America”, says the text of a statement to the population .
According to the Labor Court, with the outbreak of the strike movement, employees must maintain 70% of their staff at peak hours, from 5:00 am to 9:00 am and from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and 50% at other times. The determination was given by the judge Rafael Pugliese, in an injunction that partially answered the request made by the company.
This afternoon, at a conciliation meeting at the Regional Labor Court, CPTM even presented a proposal for adjustment, but which was not accepted by the workers in an assembly held in the early evening. The company offered a 4% increase, with inclusion in the payroll as of the current month, referring to the base date of March 2020. It also proposed a 6% increase, with inclusion in the payroll as of January 2022 , referring to the base date of March 2021.
CPTM was contacted, but has not yet manifested itself.
