BRASILIA (Reuters) – The president of Covid’s Parliamentary Inquiry Commission (CPI) in the Senate, Omar Aziz (PSD-AM), said on Tuesday that Health Minister Marcelo Queiroga should no longer give his third testimony to the collegiate, to prevent the hearing from being transformed into a “stage”.
For the senator, the shift in the speech of the minister of health, who in his first testimony to the CPI defended the use of masks and non-pharmacological preventive measures, such as physical distance, is due to electoral pretensions and will not find support in the commission.
“There won’t be this third testimony, not for us. His trip was cancelled,” the president of the CPI told Reuters.
“Today he is a Pazuello in a white coat. He became ‘one orders the other to obey’, he is no longer technically able as a doctor, as a health care professional, to speak for the ministry, not with him speaking so much atrocity,” added the senator, referring to the former minister da Saúde, Eduardo Pazuello, who even told the CPI that he limited himself to complying with the orders of President Jair Bolsonaro.
Aziz cites as recent examples of Queiroga’s change of tone the fact that he declared that he was against the mandatory use of masks and the ministry’s decision to temporarily suspend the vaccination of young people.
“You’re going to want to use a platform like that for the Pocket Narist vote. To grow politically and be a candidate for the Senate in Paraíba. It will not have this stage”, said the president of the CPI.
