Slows down the downward trend of new cases and Covid deaths, which has been observed for weeks in the world. In the last 7 days examined by the World Health Organization (WHO), the numbers are stabilizing at a global level: the registered infections are over 2.7 million and over 46 thousand have died in the period 11-17 October, with a decrease of 4 and 2% respectively.
The trend reversal is beginning to be clear in the European region, which is the only area to record an increase in new Covid cases for the third consecutive week: + 7% compared to the previous week, for a total that exceeds 1.3 millions of infections in 7 days. Also on the death front the figure is growing: + 4%, for a weekly total of 17,998. In the period considered by the WHO bulletin, one in 2 cases was registered in Europe and almost 40% of deaths reported globally.
Very slight increase in deaths (1%) also in the western Pacific region. The largest decrease in new weekly cases was reported by the African region (18%), followed by the Western Pacific region (17%). The cumulative number of confirmed confirmed cases reported globally is now over 240 million and the cumulative number of deaths is over 4.8 million. The largest decline in new weekly deaths was also reported from the African region, showing a 24% decrease from the previous week.
