Still a record of coronavirus cases in the United Kingdom: in the last 24 hours 32,548 new infections have been recorded, the highest number since January, while in the bulletin the victims are 33. According to data from the health authorities, between 1 July and today thanks to the Delta variant, 192,902 cases were recorded, an increase of 42.8% compared to the previous seven days.
Meanwhile, experts are raising the alarm in England in view of the total reopening set by Prime Minister Boris Johnson for July 19. Stopping masks and social distancing are considered “a very dangerous experiment”, as argued by Professor Tolullah Oni, an epidemiologist at the University of Cambridge, among others. Professor Jacky Davis, a consultant with the National Health Service points out that “we are moving towards a kind of hybrid herd immunity, the goal that the government first set and then set aside. Now they are conducting a very dangerous experiment.” The ‘free all’ approach is not convincing: giving up masks and spacing is a gamble. The situation “seems very dangerous, it could be stopped by something as small as a mask and social distancing. The government has staked everything on the vaccine.”
