In Russia, health authorities have recorded a new record of daily deaths for Covid, confirming a strong resurgence of the pandemic in recent weeks. The National Coronavirus Operations Center reported that 28,190 cases and 975 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours, for a total, respectively, of 7,832,964 cases and 218,345 victims since the beginning of the pandemic.
In this way, Russia recorded over 900 daily deaths for seven consecutive days. Today’s figure exceeds the previous high, confirmed on Sunday, of 962 deaths. Against this backdrop, Russian authorities have reported record numbers of daily deaths for ten of the past fourteen days, in the midst of a fourth wave of coronavirus and facing low vaccination rates, despite government appeals to the population.
To date, around 31% of the Russian population is fully vaccinated, while several polls show that more than half of Russians do not intend to be vaccinated, as reported by the Russian newspaper ‘The Moscow Times’. Faced with this situation, at least 72 of the 85 regions have introduced or are considering introducing mandatory vaccinations for certain sectors of the population, including workers in the public sector, in the textile industry or in the hospitality industry.
