Coronavirus infections are on the rise and there is expectation today for the weekly ISS report on the Covid situation in Italy, from which the indications on the color of the Regions will also emerge. At the moment, according to the report of the Gimbe Foundation, no one should go into the yellow zone with more restrictive rules and measures. In the meantime, our country accelerates on the third dose of the vaccine: from 1 December, in fact, it opens to the 40-60 year age group, the booster will be carried out with the Moderna and Pfizer mRna2 vaccines.
INFECTIONS, NUMBERS AND BULLETIN
Yesterday in Italy another 8,569 infections were recorded, with a positivity rate of 1.43%, and 67 deaths. In Friuli Venezia Giulia, “and in particular in Trieste, the situation of the increase in Covid cases is dramatic and at this point the yellow zone is needed”, is the heartfelt appeal arrived by Alberto Peratoner, president of the union of anesthetists resuscitators Aaroi-Emac of Friuli Venezia Giulia .
In Lombardy “we are still on quite good numbers but that we see day by day, little by little, are cracking and are leading us towards a situation that could therefore change from white to yellow”, says Guido Bertolaso, coordinator of the vaccination campaign in Lombardy.
In Italy, infections are growing and hospitalizations in the medical area and in intensive care are also growing. Nino Cartabellotta, president of the Gimbe Foundation, presenting the independent monitoring of the Foundation, explained that “for the third consecutive week, an increase in new weekly cases is confirmed at national level (+ 37.7%) as documented by the 7-day moving average, which more than doubled in less than a month, going from 2,456 on 15 October to 5,870 on 9 November “.
As many as 66 provinces have an incidence equal to or greater than 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants: in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Lazio and Veneto all the provinces exceed this threshold. In 3 provinces there are over 150 cases per 100,000 inhabitants: Trieste (479), Bolzano (260) and Gorizia (221). “Numbers that should induce local administrators to consider restrictions on a municipal or provincial basis, to prevent the spread of the infection from dragging the entire Region into the yellow zone”, underlined Cartabellotta.
ADMISSIONS AND INTENSIVE CARE
In the week 3-9 November hospitalizations in the medical area (+444) and in intensive care (+36) are growing. At the national level, the employment rate remains very low (6% in the medical area and 5% in intensive care), but with significant regional differences. In particular, no Region exceeds the threshold of 15% for the medical area, while Friuli-Venezia Giulia (11%) and Marche (11%) exceed that of 10% for the critical area. These values, in the short term, do not involve the risk of passing into the yellow zone, in addition to the weekly incidence of more than 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, at the same time requires exceeding the employment threshold of 15% in the medical area and 10% in intensive care.
THE EUROPEAN MAP
According to the European map of the Covid-19 situation updated every week by the ECDC, the European Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Italy continues to turn yellow more and more. In green, the lowest risk level, only 3 regions remain: Sardinia, Molise and Valle d’Aosta. While 3 regions are already in red – Calabria, Friuli Venezia Giulia, and Marche – and the autonomous province of Bolzano.
In the area of the Peninsula in yellow – next level to green in the European Covid risk ‘scale’ – there is the autonomous province of Trento and the remaining regions: Veneto, Lombardy, Piedmont, Liguria, Emilia Romagna, Tuscany, Umbria, Lazio , Abruzzo, Campania, Puglia, Basilicata and Sicily. This therefore remains the predominant color in the Ecdc classification, which is based on notifications of positive cases per 100 thousand inhabitants, combined with the percentage of positive tests out of the total number of tests carried out, without taking into account the vaccination rate.
At a European level, there is almost a split: the whole eastern part of Italy is in dark red or red. In detail, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia and Bulgaria are entirely in dark red, as are Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia. Other states in the central and northeastern bloc. Small yellow areas remain only in Sweden and Norway. On the other hand, the countries to the west and north-west of Italy have a predominance of yellow: for example France, which has a single small area in red, Portugal (entirely in yellow) and Spain which, in addition to predominant yellow has some areas in green and red. Ireland stands out, totally in dark red.
