New surge in Covid-19 infections in Austria, where 8,595 positive cases have been recorded in the last 24 hours, the highest number ever reached in 2021. The number of people admitted to intensive care has reached 352, with a growth of 30% in one week. The growth in infections makes new restrictive measures by the government likely, which has called a meeting tomorrow with the regional administrations to decide on a common strategy.
At the moment, around one fifth of Austria’s 100 districts are banned from moving to other districts in the absence of a Green Pass. Two days ago, when 300 admissions in intensive care were reached, the transition to a second level of restrictions was automatically triggered, on a scale of five, which requires the use of the Green pass to access restaurants and events after a week crowded.
