Covid, Pregliasco: “With the Delta variant it’s better to stay at home than go on vacation”
“Advice for those who want to go on vacation? Better to stay at home ”: the virologist of the State University of Milan, Fabrizio Pregliasco, does not mince words, speaking of the risks encountered during the holidays due to the Delta variant of Covid.
Contacted byAdnkronos to provide his personal “anti-Covid etiquette” for those who are about to leave these days, the expert said: “Holidays? I wouldn’t do them. It is a lottery to identify a methodology that is not that of not going there to avoid the risk “.
Pregliasco, however, reiterates that it is necessary “to maintain constant attention to that etiquette of behaviors that, we all know, when we are on vacation it drops without realizing it”.
“We – says the virologist – we also see it in tourism medicine: on vacation we have the perception that diseases go on vacation and we do things that normally, in terms of risk, also at the level of food risk, not to mention diseases sexually transmitted, they would not. There is a lowering of the threshold of attention and overall hygiene, which instead this year in particular should be preserved ”.
Fabrizio Pregliasco, however, tries to give some advice: “In the meantime, before the trip I would recommend taking out insurance for quarantines and various troubles, thus avoiding ending up with those who have remained around Europe. And I would also recommend it to those who choose Italian destinations “.
For travel “better one’s own means than means of transport, especially for the frail and the elderly”. Airplanes, in fact, according to the virologist “are safe” but “there is always the risk, as happened to a friend of mine recently, of finding himself with a positive on board and having to then, as a close contact, spend the holidays in quarantine “.
On the destination to choose for their holidays, Pregliasco emphasizes that “the mountain certainly facilitates quieter moments”, while as regards the sea “if a distance is impossible, the risk is really that of having to wear a mask even on the beach, and it’s dramatic “.
Pregliasco, then, underlines the importance of “being with your small group and being careful with other people regarding the use of masks. It is dramatic, but it is obvious that any human contact at this moment is to be considered at risk “
