After the success of the 2020 edition in Lombard schools, the ‘Hygiene together’ project that has reduced the positives in Covid by 14% will aim to involve 10 thousand realities in all regions this year. “Hygiene in schools reduces contagion. Correct information and training, even in children, on simple health prevention measures work, but a cultural change is needed”. Thus Carlo Signorelli, full professor of Hygiene and director of the School of Specialization in Hygiene and Preventive Medicine of the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University of Milan, coordinator of a study carried out within the ‘Hygiene together’ project of Napisan, which recorded precisely a 14% reduction in Covid infection in schools in Lombardy which were provided with a hygiene kit.
Based on the results obtained by the 271 Lombard schools involved in the study carried out in October 2020 – published in the indexed scientific journal ‘Acta Biomedica’ – this year Napisan, with its partners Vita-Salute San Raffaele, La Fabbrica and BVA Doxa Nudge Unit , will distribute the kit with products for hygiene and sanitizing hands and surfaces in 10 thousand Italian preschools and primary schools, as well as educational and informative material to spread the habit of good hygiene standards among the little ones.
Extending the project serves to ensure that the changes are consolidated. In schools “there has been little talk of health promotion and prevention of other infections and children have paid the price with a lot of distance learning – Signorelli emphasizes – In the long run there should be a cultural change in prevention”, so that these behaviors are not limited “only for the pandemic, in the interest of everyone’s health”.
