Although the state government warned on July 13 that Puebla is already immersed in the third wave of infections of covid-19, the reality of the numbers shows that the current epidemiological levels are still far from those recorded in the first and second waves, in June-July-August 2020 and January-February-March 2021, respectively.
MILLENNIUM made an analysis of the pEpidemiological ics of the first, second and third waves of coronavirus in Puebla reported by the state Ministry of Health (Ssa), finding that the first two were similar because there were 350 to 407 infections per day, and 40 to 61 deaths every 72 hours; Figures well below the 208 infections reported on July 21 and with deaths that do not exceed 15 units every 72 hours for three months.
August 1, 2020, peak of the first wave
According to the daily reports issued by the head of the local SSA, José Antonio Martínez García, on August 1, 2020 Puebla registered the peak of infections from the first wave, with 394, as well as 27 deaths in a period of 72 hours.
Until then, 34,867 laboratory tests had been carried out, with 22,287 positive cases and a general positivity rate of 63.86 percent; the dead numbered 2,696 and the fatality rate was 12.09 percent.
Then there were 1,443 active cases in the entity, with 918 of them hospitalized, of which 184 were seriously ill and on a mechanical ventilator.
January 22, the worst day of a pandemic in Puebla
January 22, 2021 will be marked in the history of Puebla not only as the day on which the peak of the second wave was reported, but also as the worst day in the daily sickness records, with 407, and dead, with 58.
By then the positive cases were already a total of 56 thousand 148 and the deaths 7 thousand 50, with a fatality rate of 12.55 percent.
On that date there were 1,513 active cases in the state, with 1,390 hospitalized, of which 143 were serious and connected to a mechanical ventilator.
In the third wave, the age of infections decreases
In the first and second waves of covid-19, most of the infections and hospital admissions were registered in people over 50 years of age, but that panorama has changed dramatically in the third wave.
According to the state Ministry of Health, vaccination has been a factor in the average age of those who are positive for the virus is 38 years, while that of hospitalized is 43 years.
MILLENNIUM took a tour on July 24 outside the Hospital General de Zona no.20 ‘La Margarita’ of the IMSS, where it was found that there are still hospital admissions but already without the levels of the two previous waves.
However, people who have a relative inside said medical center reported that on Friday night they witnessed the death of 6 people seeking care due to covid-19, but while they were being intervened, they perished.
They commented that at night is when more people enter the hospital, with the majority of patients being people over 40 years of age.
