COVID-19 continues to run in Italy. In fact, the Rt rises – now at 1.40 – and the incidence also increases to more than 1,000 infections per 100 thousand inhabitants. Ordinary hospitalizations and intensive care are also growing, nine in high-risk provinces and regions. These are the main data of the weekly ISS monitoring on the progress of the epidemic in Italy.
RT AND INCIDENCE GROW – In the period June 15 – June 28, the average Rt calculated on symptomatic cases is equal to 1.40 (range 1.36-1.46), an increase compared to the previous week (1.30) and above the epidemic threshold. The weekly incidence at the national level also rises: 1,071 per 100,000 inhabitants (1-7 July) compared to 763 per 100,000 inhabitants (24-30 June). This is what emerges from the weekly monitoring of the control room of the Higher Institute of Health-Ministry of Health on the progress of Covid-19 in Italy.
INCREASING ADMISSIONS AND INTENSIVE – Covid-19 hospitalizations are still on the rise. The employment rate in intensive care rose to 3.5% (daily survey by the Ministry of Health on 7 July) against 2.6% on 30 June. The employment rate in medical areas at the national level rose to 13.3% (daily survey by the Ministry of Health as at 30 June) compared to 10.3% as at 30 June.
NINE HIGH RISK REGIONS / PROVINCES – No Region / Pa is classified at low risk, 12 are classified at moderate risk (2 of these with a high probability of progression), while 9 Regions / Pa are considered at high risk due to the presence of multiple resilience alerts and one for not having reached the minimum quality threshold of the data transmitted to the ISS. It was 8 last week. Twenty Regions / PA report at least one single resilience alert, nine register multiple.
TRACKING – The percentage of Covid-19 cases detected through contact tracing activity is slightly up (10% from 9% last week). The percentage of cases detected through the appearance of symptoms decreased (41% against 44%), and the percentage of cases diagnosed through screening activities increased (49% from 47%).
