Israel today records two coronavirus deaths, after there had been no more covid deaths since June 23. There had been no deaths for over a week prior to this date. The news of the two victims comes while the country, with one of the highest vaccination rates in the world, is experiencing a resumption of infections linked to the delta variant. In the last 24 hours there have been 518 positive cases, exceeding the threshold of 500 for the third consecutive day.
Today’s victims, the Times of Israel reports, are a 48-year-old unvaccinated man, who had no particular pre-existing health problems, save for high blood pressure, and an 86-year-old senior who had received two doses of the vaccine. The 70-year-old wife of the latter, also immunized, is hospitalized with covid-19, but it is not serious.
There are currently 3,568 active cases of coronavirus in Israel. The hospitalized people are 78 people, of which 46 are serious. In this country of 9.3 million, nearly 5.7 million people have received at least one dose of the vaccine and 5.2 million are fully vaccinated.
