Christmas 2021, Coldiretti: the growing infections from Coronavirus question the holidays of millions of Italians (and the revenues from activities)
The advance of infections puts the holidays of 10 million Italians at risk, for an expenditure of 4.1 billion only for domestic tourists, of which almost a third destined for food, including lunches and dinners in restaurants and agritourisms. To sound the alarm is the Coldiretti on the occasion of the inauguration of International Forum of Agriculture and Food, organized at Villa Miani in Rome.
“Inevitable new restriction measures linked to the resumption of circulation of the pandemic – underlines the association – would ruin the dream of a return to normality in view of the holidays, after the advance of the vaccination campaign. To pay the highest price would be the structures engaged in accommodation, food, transport, entertainment, shopping and souvenirs, with the risk of closing the ski lifts ”.
For Coldiretti, “With the new hypotheses of passage of many regions in the ‘yellow zone’ the fear is that a strong slowdown in bookings but also the cancellation of many events related to Christmas in tourist resorts, starting from the traditional markets which represent an important commercial opportunity for many companies. At risk there is an already severely tried production fabric that was planning to restart after Christmas 2020 marked by the lockdown and the substantial elimination of national and foreign tourist presences “.
“We must do everything to avert the advance of infections which means new suffering for Italians, jobs and incomes at risk”, concludes the president of Coldiretti Ettore Prandini.
