Covid, infections and hospitalizations on the rise
The occupancy of beds by Covid patients in the medical area departments of Italian hospitals remains limited, equal to 7.7% (4,811 hospitalized), updated to November 22, but increasing compared to the previous week, when it was 6.7% (data 15 November. Slightly bed occupancy also increased in intensive care, equal to 1.5% (137 hospitalized) compared to the previous week when it was 1.4% (data 15 November). This is what emerges from the monitoring of the Ministry of Health-Higher Institute of Health (ISS) control room, which underlines that hospitalization and mortality rates increase with age, presenting the highest values in the 90+ age groupjust as the rate of admission to intensive care increases with age.
A possible correlation with the recent one cannot be ruled out boom in cases of pneumonia epidemic in China, especially common in children. The first warning signal was raised by ProMed, a public surveillance system that monitors human and animal disease outbreaks around the world. The notification reported cases of “undiagnosed pneumonia” in pediatric patients, characterized by high fever and abnormalities in the lungs, but without the presence of cough. “A combination of pathogens”: is the explanation that the Beijing health authorities have given for the recent epidemic of respiratory infections that hit Beijing.
