Since Sunday, the incidence of coronavirus cases has exceeded the alarm level – set at 50 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants over seven days – throughout the French territory. The number of hospitalizations has started to grow again and so has the number of daily deaths. There is also a sharp increase in cases recorded daily, with an average of about 17 thousand in the last seven days.
Some regions far exceed the warning level of the incidence rate: in particular Corsica, the Paca region, and Occitania with – respectively – 468, 372 and 340 as of 23 July. In the Alpes-Maritimes the rate reached 523 last night. Responsible for these increases is above all the Delta variant, identified in 90% of the positive tests analyzed.
Faced with these data, some protective measures are back in force: the use of the mask has become mandatory again outdoors in the Vendée, Charente-Maritime, in the Landes, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques and Hérault.
