TO Trieste Covid beds in non-intensive wards are over. The director of the emergency room Franco Cominotto sounded the alarm: “The accesses are increasing every day”. The deputy governor of Friuli Venezia Giulia Riccardo Riccardi said he was “very worried”. 90% of the hospitalized are not vaccinated.
In the afternoon Riccardo Ricciardi communicated i updated data of the outbreak in the region: “Today in Friuli Venezia Giulia 248 new infections were detected on 6,036 molecular swabs with a positive percentage of 4.11%. Today there is a death, a 90-year-old woman from Trieste. 13 people are hospitalized in intensive care. 61 patients hospitalized in other wards ”.
At the moment twelve people with Covid pneumonia are waiting for a bed that is not there. To cope with the emergency and the shortage of beds, the SC Infectious Diseases had to reactivate the hospital beds located on the third floor of the infectious building of the Maggiore Hospital in Trieste. “Unfortunately – added Riccardi – the virus has started to run again and the news coming from the emergency room is certainly not comforting. Over 90 percent of hospitalized patients are not vaccinated. The remainder is made up of very old or frail people who are still waiting for the third dose of the vaccine or have recently taken it ”.
Trieste records the most important Covid-19 outbreak in Friuli Venezia Giulia. The region thus has a data on the incidence of cases on the number of inhabitants which, after the province of Bolzano, is the highest in Italy.
