In one of the most popular markets in Roubaix (North), social workers are hammering out essential barrier gestures to protect themselves from Covid-19. These volunteers are Covid ambassadors, trained by the health authorities to try to stop the pandemic. And obviously, they have work. Roubaix nevertheless displays the sad record of contaminations: more than 1,000 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, twice as many as in Lille. So, to convince, the town hall appealed to regulars from the neighborhoods.
The goal, “use locals, so that the message does not come once again from above, from health professionals or from the state “, explains Jean-Philippe Dancoine, social affairs assistant for the city. The field work is therefore carried out by the inhabitants themselves. In the city center, it is even volunteers who walk the streets. “The recalcitrant are really hard to convince, but it is not the majority, fortunately”, explains one of the Covid ambassadors. For two months that they have been in the field, they have noticed a clear improvement in behavior.
