This Monday, in a unanimous decision, the Tenth Collegiate Court in Administrative Matters has revoked the provisional suspension that prevented bullfighting in Plaza México since last May 3.
This measure was initially granted by Judge Minerva Mendoza, in response to an amparo promoted by the civil association Goes for Their Rights.
Despite this determination, the resolution on the definitive suspension, whose notification is scheduled for May 20unless a new postponement of the corresponding hearing is presented.
If the final suspension is granted, its review by a collegiate court could last for several months, which would affect future events in Plaza México, which currently does not have a bullfighting season.
During the public session of the collegiate court, the standard necessary to grant the suspension was discussed, highlighting that the permit for bullfighting is supported by law.
Judge Ana María Ibarra Olguín mentioned that the question of the Constitutionality of the permit is a fundamental issue that does not correspond to be addressed in this instance.
For its part, Va por Sus Derechos, a civil organization that fights for animal rights in Mexicoargues that its lawsuit presents innovative aspects compared to previous protections, since it focuses on animal rights instead of human rights, such as environmental protection.
Judge Mendoza has rejected the Just Justice protection, which was the one that caused the May 2022 suspension, although she has not yet published her reasons for ordering the dismissal.
