Johnny Depp occupied the front pages of Hollywood in recent months due to the trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard. As a result of this controversial case, she lost her role in multiple films, such as “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “fantastic beasts 3”.
When it seemed that the actor’s career in Hollywood was already over, his recent victory in court seems to have changed his luck and, therefore, the chances that he will return as Gellert Grindelwald in the magical saga are increasing.
As recalled, Mads Mikkelsen replaced Depp in “Fantastic Beasts 3”. Criticism and comparisons were not lacking, but the Danish actor always showed respect for the “masterful performance” of his colleague. Now, he points out that he might end up giving her the part back.
“Obviously, well, now the course has changed: the lawsuit won, the [caso] judicial, so we’ll see if it comes back. Maybe I will. I am a huge fan of Johnny. I think he’s an amazing actor, I think he did a fantastic job,” he told Deadline.
The difficult task of replacing Johnny Depp
Regarding the pressure and difficulties to replace Johnny Depp as Grindelwald, he said that he could not do the same, but he could keep the essence of the complex character.
“I couldn’t copy it, there was no way I could just copy it, because it’s so much of him. It would be creative suicide. So we had to think of something else, something that was mine, and build a bridge between me and him. So yeah, he was intimidating (…) I could understand why his fans were heartbroken,” he previously explained.
