Costa Rica, with a goal by Joel Campbell in the second minute of the game, beat New Zealand 1-0 and qualified for the 2022 Qatar World Cup, under the direction of Colombian coach Luis Fernando Suárez.
The Ticos prevailed in the intercontinental playoff match between Concacaf and Oceania that was played at the Al Rayyan stadium in Doha and they will play a World Cup for the fifth time after Italy 1990, South Korea and Japan 2002, Germany 2006 and Brazil 2014.

Spain’s first rival will be Costa Rica, in a Group E match on Wednesday, November 23 at Al Thumama Stadium.
They will then face Japan on Sunday the 27th at the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium. and to Germany on Thursday December 1st at Al Bayt.
