Pending the commercialization of the DDR5 expectations, however still relatively distant at least for the not purely high-end builds, DDR4 RAM for several years has been representing a versatile and now tested solution. If at the debut their “regular” frequency stood at 2133 Mhz, with those at 3200 Mhz reserved for “enthusiast”, we have seen how from 2014 onwards these speeds have increased with the progress of technology, with the “mainstream” configurations passed first. at 2400 Mhz and now at 3200 Mhz.
At the same time, there was no lack of continuous upgrades for the higher frequencies, reaching 4800 Mhz in the case of the more performing and expensive versions, not at all distant from those 5200 Mhz which will be the standard frequency of the new DDR5, although probably the most popular at launch could be 6400 Mhz. However, it must be said that this new generation will have other characteristics, in addition to the frequency, which will involve a decisive step forward compared to the previous one.
As always among the first in terms of sales and offering top products in the field of RAM benches, the Californian company Corsair has recently renewed its Vengeance range with RGB RT and RGB RS. The first ones, specifically optimized for AMD processor motherboards, reach a frequency of 4600 Mhz while those subject of this review, the RS, able to be pushed to the maximum even by Intel processors, reach 3600 Mhz.
Not a very high frequency, but Corsair ensures very high reliability thanks to a proprietary PCB able to guarantee not only excellent quality and signal stability but also a careful selection of Samsung B-die chips to provide PC gamers with maximum overclocking potential. This is certainly one of the most interesting features of these new RAMs, given that they are placed in a lower price range than the RGB Pro.
The Californian house has also created a totally new look for these Vengeance RGB RT and RS, which are therefore unprecedented from an aesthetic point of view: the large central V formed by the heatsink, which obviously refers to the name of the product, is really modern and pleasant. remarked as well as made of aluminum to underline the excellent build quality of these RAMs. A truly aggressive and unique look that we are sure will also be taken up by the company’s future products of the three sails.
RT and RS currently represent Corsair’s entry level segment as regards RAM with RGB lighting: while the RTs are available in two colors, black and white, and have ten LEDs that can be manually configured via the iCue software (however compatible with those of the main manufacturer brands), the RS have six, also fully configurable with dynamic and panoramic effects that are really very choreographic, able to satisfy even the most demanding in this respect.
Both Vengeance RGB RT and RS are available in 8, 16 and 32 gigabyte sizes with a Cas Latency ranging from 16 for 3200 Mhz to 18 for 3600 Mhz and higher versions, thus offering up to 128 GB on the classic four banks. , obviously with full compatibility with XMP 2.0 profiles, therefore fully configurable from BIOS. Specifically, we were able to test the basic set consisting of two banks from 8 GB to 3200 Mhz CL16, presented in a very attractive package with a glossy yellow background and small triangles in relief to symbolize once again the V of Vengeance. Inside, in two pre-formed plastic shells, the two RGB RS counters with two information booklets: one on safety information and one on installation instructions in seven languages.
Opening their shell you immediately notice the glossy black anodized aluminum heatsink, the true hallmark of these new RAMs, with the theme of small equilateral triangles on the outside to complete the perfectly symmetrical design, if not for the word // RS present on the left side of both sides of the counter. The impression you get is that of an extremely robust and refined hardware, as well as having an excellent attention to aesthetic details.
The dimensions have considerable importance for the memory banks, and these RS are decidedly compact going to take up the 44 mm height already chosen by Corsair for its RGB PRO SL, which makes them extremely suitable for overclocking allowing the use of CPU coolers with particularly generous dimensions.
Once installed, you cannot fail to notice the truly remarkable size of the RGB bar, which the free iCue software allows you to customize in a truly complete way: you can set both the brightness and of course the effect (the default is the classic rainbow), with many combinations available, from monochromatic to hexachromatic ones, which make this kit a non plus ultra for those who are looking for particularly distinctive effects for their computer.
In essence, the Vengeance RS represent an excellent compromise for those looking for extremely reliable DDR4 RGB RAM, of high build quality and good performance without thinking too much about overlocking: in stock configuration, on the AIDA 64 benchmark, the two banks exceeded 45,000 by far. MB / s in reading and writing, reaching 50,000 MB / s for the latter.
In short, very good results for 3200 Mhz, slightly lower than the Crucial Ballistix RGB 3600 Mhz CL16 with which we were able to compare them, even if in terms of FPS the gap is practically nil with the only negative figure represented by a rather latency. high, moreover evidenced by the factory values 16-20-20-38 at 1.35V.
Values that can naturally rise with overclocking, as already mentioned configurable via BIOS, at least on high-end motherboards, both with Intel processors via XMP and AMD profiles via DOCP ones. Moreover, if you own a “mobo” Z590 with the novelty introduced by these chipsets, ie the possibility of desynchronizing the frequency from that of the controller, you can reach very high frequency values. Realistically, given that the Samsung B-die chips mounted on these RAMs are not very fond of voltage increases, it is advisable that the Vengeance RGB RS 3200 Mhz are pushed to the limit without increasing the nominal voltage of 1.35 Volt, being able to easily reach values frequency of 3600 Mhz and perhaps even 3800 Mhz without particular problems.
This new Corsair product is ultimately an excellent choice if you want to buy excellent RGB RAM at a competitive price: their strong point is certainly the completely new and particularly pleasant design of the aluminum heatsink, which in the case of It is a pity RS is not also available in white as is the case for the RT sisters. Am I therefore a recommended purchase? Absolutely yes, the quality / price ratio is decidedly favorable, even more so if you opt to take the flagship version of the Vengeance RGB RS, the 3600 Mhz one.
