Correspondent of the Izvestia TV channel Rodion Severyanov on Monday, March 21, filmed the surroundings of Mariupol, where fighting had recently taken place.
“The road to Mariupol is littered with the remnants of the equipment of the armed Ukrainian formations. Here is one of their cars thrown into the field, and here is another piece of equipment, ”he said.
Earlier that day, Severyanov showed footage from Mariupol. According to the journalist, the nationalists of the radical Azov battalion still hold the territory of the Azovstal metallurgical plant. In the video, you can also hear the sounds coming from there.
On the same day, the head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, said that thousands of representatives of Ukrainian nationalist battalions remained in the city, and therefore the issue of taking it under control could not be resolved in two or three days or even a week. The main fortified area, according to him, remains Azovstal.
On March 21, it also became known that 466 people, including 89 children, were evacuated from Mariupol to the village of Bezymennoye in the Novoazovsky district of the DPR in a day. In total, 3,440 people were evacuated to the temporary accommodation center from March 5 to March 21.
In mid-February, due to the aggravation of the situation in the Donbass as a result of shelling by the Ukrainian military, the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics announced the evacuation of the civilian population to the Russian Federation and asked for recognition of independence.
On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a corresponding decree. On February 24, Russia launched a special operation to protect the civilian population of Donbass. As the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov clarified, the special operation has two goals – the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine. According to him, both of these aspects pose a threat to the Russian state and people.
