Coronavirus Would it be worthwhile for a three-time vaccinated person to suffer from coronary heart disease to achieve superimmunity? Husin Järvinen: “I can in no way recommend getting sick”

The doctors’ answer is unanimous.

Coronavirus the latest variation of omikron is spreading at a rapid pace. According to pessimistic estimates, almost everyone will be infected soon.

However, in those who are vaccinated, the disease usually remains mild, and after the third vaccine, the risk should be further reduced, at least for some months.

It is no wonder, then, that the question has arisen in the minds of many basic and healthy people who have been vaccinated three times about whether it would be worthwhile to get the disease out of the bottom when vaccine protection is at its strongest.

Not worth it, says Director of Infectious Diseases, Helsinki and Uusimaa Hospital District (Hus) Asko Järvinen.

“There is no way I can recommend getting sick,” says Asko Järvinen of Husin.

“Korona is a serious disease that, in its severe form, threatens even the life. Although the risk of serious illness in a basic health and vaccinated person is low, I can in no way recommend getting sick, ”says Järvinen.

Helsinki Professor of Infectious Diseases, University Anu Kantele is on the same lines.

“I can’t recommend getting infected. Nor have I heard of any scientist or authority anywhere in the world calling for infecting themselves. The line looks completely unified. ”

There is uncertainty associated with every infection, Kantele recalls.

“Hospitals repeatedly come to people who have been unknowingly at risk. So it’s not worth lulling the idea that a serious form of the disease can’t affect you. ”

And even if the disease itself is mild, it can be accidentally transmitted to infect a person for whom it is more serious.

Disease getting sick can make it a tempting thought superimmunity, which would protect against subsequent infections.

Immunity is also associated with a great deal of uncertainty. We do not yet know how long immune protection will last and to what extent it will protect against possible subsequent variants of the virus.

In addition, there is a risk of prolonged coronary heart disease, of which little is known.

Yet the situation seems clearer when looking at the whole rather than the individuals.

The most difficult situation for society is if everyone gets sick at the same time. Even if many get omicron sooner or later, the long-term distribution of infections will help survival.

“Hospitals are already tough. Every extra patient puts a strain on health care and takes up space for those in need, ”says Kantele.

But still. Would it not be worthwhile to take advantage of the protection provided by the third vaccine?

“If you think pure in theory, it might be wisest for those who have received the third vaccine to be slightly exposed to the corona. So that antibodies start to develop, but no infection occurs, ”says Järvinen.

“But how to do this in practice is a more difficult question.”

Bridge at the moment, it seems anyway that no one needs to look for an omicron separately. More than 30,000 infections have been diagnosed in the Helsinki and Uusimaa Hospital District this week.

If we think that the actual number is four or five times higher than what was found, it means that almost every tenth area is infected within a week, Järvinen calculates.

Thus, no coronary parties are needed to get infected, Järvinen states.

“Or even a party. I would say that all parties are coronary at these infection rates, and it’s not worth going to. ”
