“A significant epidemic is still going on, and serious forms of the disease are still emerging,” Reinikainen said on Thursday.

Kuopio University Hospital collects daily data on the number of patients in intensive care units throughout the country. According to Reinikainen, the capacity of intensive care is sufficient compared to the current situation.
“We are doing quite well. At present, patients are reasonably evenly distributed across the country. From time to time, there is a heavy workload in individual hospitals, but as a whole there is no problem without such a large number of patients. ”
Terrestrial the intensive care units had a total of 36 corona-positive patients in treatment on Thursday. In 27 of them, covid-19 disease caused by coronavirus infection is also a reason for the need for intensive care, says Reinikainen.

Treatment periods in intensive care units are still long. Typically, the treatment period lasts for a dozen days.

“Of course, restrictions would lead to better results. The climate in society is such that the benefits of restrictions are complex and far-reaching. ”
The minister says he is concerned about the corona situation. He refers to Denmark, where interest rate restrictions were lifted in early February. The number of corona-positive patients in the hospital almost doubled from 900 to 1,700.
“For us, this hasn’t suddenly plundered the high numbers. The number of patients in hospital was about 650 a couple of weeks ago. Now it’s 850, ”Lindén said Thursday.
There were a total of 907 corona-positive patients in hospital on Friday.
According to the minister, the adverse effects of the restrictions on the economy and working conditions will weigh more heavily when making assessments.
“Based on the overall weighing, there is a certain risk here.”
Instead of restrictions, Lindén relies on people’s own actions.
“Whether we appeal to people and their behavior, however, then we continue. The abandonment of masks has not yet been recommended by THL. ”
