Russia registered 820 deaths due to the coronavirus on Thursday, the highest daily balance in the country since the start of the pandemic, according to official government figures.
The presence of the more contagious delta variant of the virus, the low acceptance of vaccines in the country and the absence of movement restrictions contribute to this situation.
In total and according to government figures, Russia has more than 179 thousand deaths from coronavirus, the highest figure in Europe.
However, this number only takes into account the deceased who have undergone an autopsy that has determined that the coronavirus is the main cause of their death.
The Russian statistics agency Rosstat estimated that the deaths from COVID-19 in the country exceeded 300,000 at the end of June 2021.
Despite the insistent calls from the authorities, the vaccination campaign against covid-19 is progressing slowly due to the reluctance of the population to inoculate.
According to the Gogov.ru portal, only 35 million 547 thousand 57 people have been vaccinated with the full schedule, which represents 24.3% of the population and 51.5% of the vaccination plan.
In the last week, about 210 thousand people were inoculated, so if this vaccination rate is maintained, it would take seven months from today to immunize 60% of the population of Russia.
