Finland the national basketball team stretched to victory in the World Cup qualifiers from Croatia on Sunday.
However, one player was out of the crowd: not seen on the field Juho Nenosta. His farm as a pier played Hannes Pöllä.
The match at the Espoo Metro Arena was watched by more than 5,000 spectators. The game introduced a corona passport with two days notice.
Nenonen followed the World Cup qualifiers in his hotel room in Helsinki in the corona quarantine, where he closed last Friday after returning with the team from the opening match of the World Cup qualifiers from Sweden.
“After the match, I didn’t get to sleep until four in the morning. When I woke up, I was feeling unwell and I measured the heat. It was 37.1. To be on the safe side, I did a quick test that turned out to be positive. Fortunately, I had my own Hotel Room in Finland, ”Nenonen tells HS.
During the day, Nenonen went to the actual corona test in Helsinki, which also became a positive result. The feeling felt weak and the fever rose to 38 degrees.
“There was no heat in its coma, but the feeling is not one hundred percent. The sound is a little depressed and there is mucus in the throat. I think this will be overcome with fright, but the illness was a small shock. ”
Nenonen was in quarantine at the hotel until Monday, when it was learned that his son was also in pain. After that, Nenonen went into home quarantine.
Nenonen will have to be quarantined for at least ten days. The length of quarantine is ultimately determined by how long he has had symptoms.
The match to be played next Saturday against the bears in Kauhajoki, leading the Korisliiga, will be missed by Salon Vilppaa’s player.
“I would have liked to have played that match when it had been a rematch for last spring’s final.”
According to the instructions of a lively physiotherapist, Nenonen may not practice until the quarantine is over.
“Peaceful return when symptoms go away. After that, with increasing strain, at least two weeks of training before it is relevant to the real games. ”
Where from the national team’s winger then got a corona infection? Other national team players have been tested and are healthy.
“One possibility – though by no means certain – is that I got infected from our 8-month-old son. She had a skin infection early in the week and I asked our team’s coaching staff if I could go to the doctor with the boy. I got permission and went. However, the corona was not checked from a young age because the symptoms did not directly indicate it. ”
“The boy’s result came on Sunday and it was positive. However, it may also be that I contracted the disease from him. According to the doctor, it is impossible to say which one it was first. ”
Nenonen is allowed to be quarantined at home. His wife does not have a corona, but she may have been exposed to it through her son.
“If a boy has received a crown from me, I have no idea where I got it from. I’m no longer my most contagious, so I’d rather be home when there’s a little convalescent. I can help my mother. ”
Nenonen wanted to report his infection in public because he was concerned about the debate over vaccinations. He himself has been vaccinated twice.
“The debate over vaccinations is polarized. There is no need to go very deep into social media when there is a lot of blaming and barking against those who have not been vaccinated. However, most unvaccinated people are not against the vaccine, and the reasons for not being vaccinated may be related to various fears. Blaming doesn’t help anyone. ”
“My mother who gives vaccinations has said that a lot of people are scared a lot. They shake in vaccinations for fear. When I applied for the second vaccine, I was also excited for some reason, even though I was excited. It was probably exciting because I knew vaccination could become a side effect. The excitement was not under my control, ”Nenonen tells her story.
Instead of blaming and barking, Nenonen wants to use his own example to encourage and encourage people to get vaccinated.
“You can’t know how serious the disease would have been for me if I hadn’t been vaccinated. Now I will probably survive quite a bit, but I will try to find understanding and restraint in the discussion, and encourage those who have not taken the vaccine. ”
The second player of the national team Topias Palmin the entire career was to end in the spring of 2020 because of the corona. Palma, who played in Italy, was ruined for two years by illness.
Palmi recovered from the corona and its aftermath in Tampere. In October, Tampereen Pyrintä announced that it had signed an agreement with Palm for the rest of the period.
Palmi got the disease before vaccines were available.
“Topias was a much cautionary example of a serious illness. I myself have tried to exercise great caution, even though there are two vaccines. The good thing about this is that there is now a lower chance of getting a serious illness. ”
National team head coach Henrik Dettmann is glad that Sunday’s match could be played and that there was a lot of crowd in the match. The situation could have been different.
“The disease is on the move and you have to be careful. It was lucky we all had two vaccines. Otherwise, Sunday’s game could have gone unplayed, ”Dettmann says.
The International Basketball Federation requires players to have corona tests or two vaccines.
“You can’t be involved if you don’t accept the vaccine. Responsibility is emphasized. We have been very careful all along. That’s why a little less was done, ”says Dettmann.
Correction: Topias Palm’s career was due to end in 2020 in the spring, not in the spring of 2019.
