Coronavirus | 30 million euros will not be received in corona compensation in Vantaa

The imbalance affects the funding of new welfare areas in the coming years.

State the decision to end compensations for corona tracking and other restrictions will leave a dent of 28.1 million euros in the current year’s budget of Vantaa’s social and health services.

Among other things, the country’s government limited the reimbursement of testing arrangements to end at the end of June, even though the municipalities have organized corona tests even after that.

Mayor of Vantaa Ritva Viljanen snarled on the subject, already at the turn of August-September, when the draft decree on limiting the state’s expense reimbursements was in the opinion round.

He considers the government’s policy to be particularly unluckily timed, because the funding of social and health measures affects the funding of the welfare areas that start at the turn of the year.

The state calculates the basis for the funding of the welfare areas according to the realized income and expenses of social and health measures last year and this year. Vantaa calculates that it loses five million euros in funding for the welfare area every year.

“When welfare areas take more money with them, it puts us ahead for years,” Viljanen commented on Monday.

Setting According to

The state is reimbursing the pandemic activities organized by the city at Helsinki-Vantaa airport for the expenses of around 2.7 million euros from January to June.

Even without the corona expenses, Vantaa’s social and health care expenditures are about to be exceeded by 28.9 million euros, of which the largest single overrun comes from purchases of enhanced service housing for the elderly, 10 million euros.

Vantaa has been able to make up for the service debt that arose during the pandemic, among other things, to break up the long treatment queues in healthcare. Vantaa is investing more than 18 million euros in the years 2021–2023 to break up the queues and aftercare of the pandemic.

For example, 13 new professionals have been hired this year for youth mental health services, and 18 new curators and psychologists for student care. Not all psychologist vacancies have been filled due to staff shortages.

Queues have also formed for non-urgent medical examinations at the children’s clinic due to the shortage of doctors.
