- Preparations to add more than 4,000 beds including ICU beds in hospitals
- 2,644 beds will soon be available in private hospitals
- ‘More than 200 ICU beds added to hospitals in Delhi’
Due to the rapidly growing Corona case in Delhi, there is a readiness to add more than 4,000 beds including ICU beds in hospitals by the end of this month to Corona patients who do not have beds. While government-run Guru Tegh Bahadur and Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospitals are preparing to add more ICU beds, many private hospitals are also preparing to add beds to deal with the spike in Corona cases.
In fact, Delhi Government’s order to reserve 60% beds for Corona patients in private hospitals will add 2,644 beds for the treatment of infection. The state government and the central government will jointly include 1,413 ICU beds in the state-run medical facilities. Currently Delhi has 17,300 Kovid beds, 1,396 with ICU ventilators and 2,623 ICU beds with no ventilators. Reportedly, out of 1,396 ICU beds with ventilators, only 122 are now vacant, similarly 418 ICU beds out of 2,623 without ventilators are also empty.
Increasing number of patients increased demand for beds
Due to the continuous increase in corona cases, about 7,500 new cases are being registered in Delhi every day, so the occupation of patients in hospital beds has increased. In the last few weeks, the busyness of ICU beds with ventilators and ICU beds without ventilators has increased. There is more in private hospitals than in government institutions. Along with this, the demand for corona beds without ICU is also increasing.
2,644 beds will soon be available in private hospitals
The increase in new cases has forced the Delhi government to take measures to increase the number of corona beds. These include ventilators as well as ICU beds. The Delhi government has ordered 90 private hospitals to reserve 60% of their total bed capacity for the treatment of corona patients. An official said that many private hospitals have increased the percentage of corona beds to 60% of the total bed capacity and other hospitals are also preparing to do so. 2,644 beds in 90 private hospitals will soon be available for treatment of corona.
‘More than 200 ICU beds added to hospitals in Delhi’
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that the Delhi government has taken all possible steps to handle the condition of corona with isolations in hospitals and adequate corona beds. By the end of November, the state-run hospitals will have 663 additional ICU beds, while the central government has assured 750 more beds in the central government-run medical facilities to the Delhi government. This means that there will be 1,413 additional ICU beds in Delhi. More than 200 ICU beds have been added to hospitals in Delhi in a review meeting of Corona chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah last week.
