The lockdown is extended. The states will probably soon agree with the federal government to keep the restaurants and leisure facilities closed for the whole of Advent.
Munich – The steady time should be much quieter this year. The countries are planning one Lockdown extension until at least December 20th. That comes from the eight-page draft for joint position paper which has been circulating since Sunday evening and is available to our editorial team. And that’s not necessarily the end: the measures should can be extended by two weeks at a timeif the seven-day incidence does not drop below 50 new infections per 100,000 population.
Corona summit is approaching: Country plan is probably in place – no loosening, stricter contact rules
The new country paper with the silent Advent is a result of the numerous Conference calls across all state capitals on the weekend. The state chancellery and high officials had under the leadership of the Berliners Michael Müller (SPD) tries to come to an agreement more thoroughly than in the previous week. The crucial meetings of the prime ministers are now taking place in quick succession between today and Wednesday Chancellor Angela Merkel to set the details.
Planning status: There should be no easing, but also no closings in trade. In December that will Contact limit probably even tightened. So far: a maximum of ten people from two households; in the future that should five adults / adolescents from two households be limited. That sounds like little change, but it would mean a limitation for larger families. Exceptions for households are planned for Christmas, but not yet determined. Stricter rules and a firecracker ban are due on New Year’s Eve.
Söder’s proposal decisive in the lockdown paper? CSU boss wants “no back and forth” anymore
“The fact is that we are not yet as far as we would like to have come,” said Merkel on Sunday evening. Bavaria’s Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) said that if you lose patience, “everything will start all over again and in the end we will end up with even tougher measures than in the Czech Republic or Austria”.

On Söder’s suggestion December 20th is likely to go back, that was already mentioned as an option in a submission from his State Chancellery. A longer-term concept is needed, “no back and forth, no back and forth” that unsettles people at least as much as Corona itself, said Söder. Christmas should be “freer”, “but New Year’s Eve more consistent” and with a firecracker ban, at least in larger places.
Corona measures in Germany: Lockdown could be partially “regionalized” – lack of clarity in schools
Part of the Lockdown regionalized will. If a country does a Incidence below 35 achieved, easing should be allowed there. Whether there is such a model for Counties and whether 35 will really be the decisive number (or 50) is probably being discussed today. Even with the schools the countries remain vague – hybrid lessons (i.e. changing models and digital lessons) should be regulated on a country-specific basis. For Bavaria, Söder indicated in the evening that from the seventh grade in hotspots onwards, they would rely on changing models. He also promotes longer holidays in January – in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg so far until January 10th, anyway longer than in other countries.
Nationwide, infected students and their surroundings should be in for five days quarantine should be sent. A quick test can then end the quarantine. This formulation is much softer than the Bavarian practice of leaving entire classes at home. Behind the scenes apparently braked several prime ministers.
