Update from December 25th, 1.40 p.m .: The Bavarian Health Minister Klaus Holetschek (CSU) has proposed not only to impose fines in the event of violations of the planned general vaccination requirement, but also to consider financial disadvantages in the case of health insurance. “We should also check whether malus regulations in the area of statutory health insurance would be possible and sensible,” said the incumbent chairman of the conference of health ministers Editorial network Germany according to the announcement from Saturday. “Because the risk for unvaccinated people of getting seriously ill with Corona is significantly higher.”
Holetschek did not name any preferences. Among other things, higher health insurance contributions for unvaccinated people, a contribution to the treatment costs or the cancellation of sickness benefits could be considered. The latter two options are therefore already regulated by law – for example for follow-up treatments due to complications in cosmetic surgery, tattoos or piercings.
Holetschek calls on the parties in the Bundestag to initiate compulsory vaccinations in January. “We have to start the general vaccination requirement as soon as the facility-related vaccination requirement comes into effect,” he said with a view to the transition period up to March 15. Until then, employees in health and care facilities must provide evidence of a complete vaccination. Holetschek said that many health and care workers felt “stigmatized by the mandatory vaccination that only applies to them”. They would have “the feeling that they are solely responsible for the vaccine picking”. “With a general vaccination requirement, we ensure equal treatment and also prevent even more caregivers from leaving their jobs.”
Association of cities and municipalities considers new corona strategy necessary – “Acceptance would increase if …”
First report from December 25th: Berlin – Christmas is celebrated in German households, but Corona remains in the back of the mind. The spread of the Omikron variant * is causing worry lines among experts, and tightening of the corona measures are under discussion. Most recently, NRW Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst * (CDU) dared a push.
The North Rhine-Westphalian head of government has already called for understanding for further difficulties. “We are doing everything to return to normal as soon as possible, but we as politicians have to be honest: Corona will still keep us busy and demand a lot in the new year,” said Wüst of the German press agency. “In the new year, too, restrictions in everyday life will remain necessary. Omikron is a whole new dimension of challenge. “
Corona: Expert complains about inadequate contact tracking
Although the number of infections * fell nationwide recently, experts expect a trend reversal soon – also because the contact tracking of infected people can no longer be fully followed. The federal chairwoman of the doctors of the public health service, Ute Teichert, again pointed out existing gaps in the contact tracking of people infected with corona. “At the moment there is almost no comprehensive follow-up any more.” Several countries such as Baden-Württemberg, Berlin and Hamburg have even completely suspended the search for contact persons.
A spokeswoman for the Berlin health administration rejected Teichert’s statement. “The representation that Berlin is one of the federal states in which the health authorities no longer guarantee contact tracking in the context of the corona pandemic is incorrect,” she said. “The Berlin health authorities carry out contact tracking in accordance with the guidelines of the RKI. The Bundeswehr is also deployed in eight health offices. ”
Omikron variant in Germany: NRW Prime Minister Wüst promotes vaccination
One thing is certain: the measures to contain the coronavirus will remain in place in the coming year. Hendrik Wüst emphasized that these weeks will be about significantly reducing contacts again. Also Masks and Hygiene measures * would accompany the citizens for months to come. “The booster vaccinations and any other vaccinations * are the most important building block in fighting the pandemic.” Nevertheless, there is definitely hope that the pandemic will end. “The availability of enough vaccine gives us the chance to protect ourselves well.” Unfortunately, the strategy has not yet worked, as originally hoped. “The low vaccination rate in some parts of Germany has thwarted our plans so far,” said the MPK chairman.
Corona resolutions: City and Municipal Day criticizes the federal-state conference
Criticism of the resolutions of the Prime Minister’s Conference * comes from the German Association of Towns and Municipalities. “It is still driven far too much on sight,” complained General Manager Gerd Landsberg to the newspapers Funke media group according to the announcement from Saturday. “Everyone knows that the new wave of Omikron is coming.” That is why long-term planning is essential. “The acceptance among the population would also increase if decisions were not always made from one federal-state conference to the next,” said Landsberg.
The chief executive asked the Bundestag to re-establish the epidemic situation of national importance. “Nobody wants a lockdown, but it can quickly become necessary depending on the development of the infection,” he said. “That’s why politicians have to keep this option open so that they can react very quickly.”
At the same time, Landsberg asked for a possible general vaccination * to be prepared. This can only work efficiently with a uniform vaccination register. Other countries had such a system. In Germany, “the concrete preparations must now begin”. “It is quick to clarify how such a register could be set up digitally, unbureaucratically and in compliance with data protection regulations.” A vaccination prioritization for the vaccine that is adapted for the Omikron variant should also be discussed at an early stage. * Merkur.de and tz.de are an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA
