The final of the Copa Sudamericana 2022, scheduled for the first of October, will be played at the Mario Alberto Kempes stadium in Córdoba (Argentina) replacing Brasilia, chosen in principle, Conmebol announced this Thursday.
The change of venue was requested by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) considering that the general elections in that country will be held the following day, Sunday, October 2.

The new venue was agreed upon by the members of the Conmebol Council given the impossibility of carrying out the program at the Mané Garrincha World Cup stadium in the Brazilian capital.
For the second time, Córdoba will receive the final of the South American
Córdoba already hosted the definition of the 2020 South American Cup when Argentina’s Defense and Justice champion was consecrated. Both the tournament and the final could not have an audience in the stadiums due to the covid-19 pandemic.
The Copa Sudamericana is a tournament “increasingly consolidated in the continent and with a growing global impact,” Conmebol said in a statement.
“The sustained increase in prizes for participating and winning clubs, the increasing scope of broadcasts and the high level of competition of the teams are factors that show the expansion of this continental tournament,” said the entity.
The contest will distribute 60 million dollars and the champion of the 2022 edition will pocket a prize of 5 million dollars, one million more than the purse Athletico Paranaense took when they won the 2021 tournament. In the group stage, all participating teams received $900,000.

Deportivo Cali, the only Colombian in this edition of the South American
Only one Colombian team is still in competition in this tournament. This is Deportivo Cali, which fell from the Copa Libertadores and will face Melgar, from Peru, in the round of 16, a team led by the new coach of the Colombian National Team, the Argentine Néstor Lorenzo.
América and La Equidad were left out in the first phase, when Conmebol determined that teams from the same country be eliminated. The winners of those keys, Medellín and Junior, could not get past the group stage.
