A Miami police officer is under investigation by his department after telling a black driver “this is how you get killed” during a traffic stop, according to local officials.
Gerardson Nicolas was driving around town last week when he was pulled over for not wearing a seat belt. He began filming the encounter at some point and appears to have a tense argument with the unnamed officer while looking for his documents.

In the video posted on social media, Nicolas can be heard saying “I’m going to work”, and the police officer replies “give your driver’s license, registration and insurance, if not, you won’t work today.”
As Nicolas rummages through his wallet, the policeman continues. “Simple thing, man,” he says. “This is how you get killed here, man.”
“Which?’ Nicholas responds after handing over his driver’s license. “Say that again.” “My God,” says the officer. “Registration and Insurance”.
The policeman then tries to close the door while Nicolas tries to stop it from closing. “Why are we killed?” asks the driver before telling the camera that the officer would soon become “famous”.
The video shows the driver standing outside his vehicle with the motorcycle police officer in the background. “It has nothing against me, it pulls me and threatens to shoot me”, he says. “Threaten to kill me. We’re going to court, man.”

Nicolas told NBC 6 he wasn’t sure where some of the requested documents were located because he was driving his mother’s car. “I was scared,” he told the network.
The Miami Police Department said it had launched an internal investigation into the incident and would review about 30 minutes of body camera footage.
“Please be assured that we are committed to transparency and community trust and will address all matters of public interest equitably, fairly and in accordance with applicable law,” the department said in a statement.
