Oldenburg – Although a 27-year-old was convicted of fraud with counterfeit gold bars and gold coins, he allegedly continued to sell counterfeit goods over the Internet. Therefore, from Wednesday (2 p.m.) he will have to answer in a second trial at the Oldenburg regional court. Five offenses are charged: Between April 2020 and January 2021, he is said to have offered fake gold via an online platform.
Since the first judgment on appeal was not yet final at the time, the man was at large. When the court realized that the accused allegedly committed new offenses during this time, it issued an arrest warrant at the end of September 2020. The defendant went into hiding and the investigative authorities were looking for him. He surrendered in mid-January 2021.
In the first trial, the Jever District Court sentenced the man to three years in prison in November 2019 for fraud with counterfeit gold bars and Krugerrand coins. (dpa)
